The Best Digital Interior Design Sites to Help You Create Your Dream Home

As you may know, Decorist approached MAS Design to be one of their “Elite Designers” in the spring of this year. (Of course we said, “YES”!) Not only have we loved working with their team on some inspiring projects, but it has been a great experience to be a part of the new concept of online interior design in general. It has been an exciting and cutting edge process, but we’ve also enjoyed providing services to people that good design wouldn’t otherwise be accessible to, financially and also geographically. Well, if that weren’t enough, now Decorist has been featured in Vogue! BOOM! We’re super proud!

Houzz Publishes MAS Design’s “Organic Modern” Project

Thanks, Houzz editors, for publishing our “Organic Modern” project in Sonoma County!

Sonoma Getaway, “Organic Modern”

This project is near and dear to our hearts.  We worked with fantastic clients whose primary residences are in San Francisco and Tokyo.  Their vacation home is in a stunning part of the world, Sonoma County, and as you can see the home has incredible architecture and even more impressive views.

Although the clients’ tastes are typically uber modern, we all agreed that the natural setting and views should be showcased above all else.  The organic world would be our inspiration, and although we always infuse an element of surprise into our designs, the focus here should rather be about subtlety and textures that would complement and showcase the natural surroundings.

Our choices were either inspired by nature, or in stark juxtaposition with it.  We love the tension created by a strong juxtaposition (such as lucite and natural stone, for example).

The client had one great request:  That we find items with a story.  Don’t just create a beautiful/vapid space, but something that would also have meaning. The jumping off point was the pendant lighting over the kitchen island, which are a rare find.  They were once Indonesian water backpacks, converted into pendant lighting. There are a lot of special moments like this throughout the design.

From there we just kept with the theme, which we’re calling “Organic Modern”.  Chic nature-inspired textures, strong juxtapositions, neutral hues, and the Japanese concept of “wabi sabi”, or perfect imperfection.  There was no shortage of inspiration.

We hope you enjoy the space as much as we enjoyed creating it.

DIFFA Designs, San Francisco Designer Charity Event

Look what came out in the presses just in time for #TBT! MAS Design was so proud to partner with Hammers & Heels to create these one of a kind “Red Haute” hex tables (see below) for the 2015 DIFFA Designs charity event supporting HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention funding. Many thanks to DIFFA, Steven Miller, Agustin Sanders, and Hammers & Heels for your help and Academy of Art for the coverage of the event.

Wall Paint Ideas: Interior Designers Share Their Top Picks | Decorist Home and Interior Decorating

Thank you, Decorist, for featuring MAS Design amongst your “Elite Designer” experts on today’s blog about paint colors.

Looking for new paint ideas? At Decorist, our online interior designers get a lot of questions about paint. It’s such a quick, easy and affordable way to update your space! Our customers want to know our favorite interior paint colors, what’s trending (gloss paint? flat? bold colors?), how to paint a room, or simply the best wall paint color to update a particular space.

Whether you’ve recently moved into a new home, are trying to tie a room together, or are looking to refresh an existing space, choosing the right paint can be daunting given the overwhelming number of color choices, finishes and brands.

So, we turned to 7 of our highly talented Elite Designers who have a ton of experience recommending fabulous paint to their clients. We asked them to share some of their favorite paint ideas and brands. Here’s what they said:

MAS Design

“At MAS Design we’re up obsessed with white paint! A good white paint allows your architecture, furniture and art to be the star of the show. But not just any white! As we all know, a bad white can be a real downer.”

“We vacillate between Benjamin Moore Classic Grey (as in this dining room) and Sherwin Williams Incredible White. Both whites have grey undertones, so lighting changes can make the color appear grey in some rooms, and brighter white in others, while keeping a cohesive look. Also, both whites are sumptuous and have a lot of depth.”

“To maximize architectural details, as is done here for the coiffured ceiling, use matte or flat paint on the walls and ceiling, and a 50% semi-gloss to play up the gorgeous moldings.”
